Pull And Run Spring Boot REST API Gradle
Pull a Gradle Spring Boot REST API image from Docker Hub and run it locally or on a server.
After pushing a Gradle Spring Boot REST API image to Docker Hub, you can run it from any Docker machine.
This is useful when moving the API from development to another laptop, an EC2 instance, or a deployment server.
Pull the image
docker pull username/spring-gradle-api:1.0Check:
docker imagesRun the container
docker run -d -p 8080:8080 --name gradle-api username/spring-gradle-api:1.0Test the API:
http://localhost:8080On EC2, use:
http://ec2-public-ip:8080Check logs
docker logs gradle-apiFor Spring Boot, logs show whether the app started successfully and which port it is using.
Pass environment variables
Some APIs need database URLs, usernames, passwords, or profiles.
You can pass values using -e:
docker run -d -p 8080:8080 \
-e SPRING_PROFILES_ACTIVE=prod \
--name gradle-api \
username/spring-gradle-api:1.0On Windows PowerShell, write the command on one line if line continuation becomes confusing.
Clean up
docker stop gradle-api
docker rm gradle-apiPulling and running from Docker Hub proves that your app is no longer tied to your local project folder. The image has become the deployment package.
